Chapter 13
In the chapter 13 reading, something that really caught my attention and that was interesting to me was how the success of the Indian Ocean trade provided little incentive for the Chinese, muslims, and Indians to go beyond their own waters. What this meant was the European voyagers had more opportunity to explore more land since these other groups more occupied with their successful trade. Another thing that caught my eye during the reading was reasons why the Europeans were successful when coming to America. Arguably the biggest reason why the Europeans were so successful in taking over the Americas was because of the illnesses and diseases they brought with them. These diseases were completely new to Native Americans because they did not have any of these diseases in America that the europeans were now immune to. These diseases killed off a he amount of native Americans. The europeans saw this as a good sign though, as a matter of fact they saw it as divine. Governor Bradford of Plymouth, described it as "the god hand of God at work, sweeping away multitudes of the natives, that he might make room for us."
